Robert Graham has spent five years in France planning to marry Sarah Gettys. They had fallen in love right before he left with the Army. He had promised to return.
Sarah had given up on Robert Graham and was moving on with her life. For the five years he was a way, she never heard a word from him. She didn’t even know if he was dead or alive.
Robert returns. He sells his commission and assumes that Sarah will just fall into his arms. He has already contacted her father and arranged for them to be betrothed. All that’s left but to get married. But Sarah has other ideas. She is angry that he hasn’t written. She wants to be courted and proposed to.
